TOPIC FOUR: DATABASE

I learned that database is place in a computer where data is stored. Database can be defined as an organised collection of interrelated data. software system that is used to manipulate data is called database management system. Another important thing i learnt is function of database.The following are three function of database i have learned. Firstly, it is used to store data. Secondly, it is used to organize data. Thirdly, It is used to retrieve data. in additional to that i have learned what database dictionary in database is. Database dictionary in database can be defined as structure of data in database. Other thing i have learned about database is components of database. Components of database i have learned are data item, relationships, constraints, and schema. I have learned that database management systems are software program that allows users to create, edit, update data in database files and store and retrieve data from database files. The following are functions of database management systems. Examples of database management systems are Microsoft access, oracle, and MySQL . 

  Database system refers to combination of two things that are database management systems (DBMS)software and database. Database system is defined as an organisation of components that define and regulate the collection, storage, management and use of data in database. The main purpose of database system is to record and maintain information. Also we learned components of database managements system. Example of components of DBMS are field, record, key field, table, relational database, and Objects.

    There are three types of relation in database. Firstly, one to one relation (hierarchical). Example of one to one relation  is a relation between student and ID. Each students has its own ID. Another type of relation is one to many. Example of one to many is  relationship between one item and many item. For instance is one student takes many subjects. One students takes many courses such as one student takes information technology, English , mathematics and other else.The last one is many to many. many student takes many courses.
